I purchased a Pavilion dv1000 from hpshopping.com a few weeks ago. So
far I'm very satisfied. It's a pretty neat machine.

One mistake I made was not acquiring the remote control at the same
time I purchased the laptop. Frankly, I don't think it was an option
when I bought it. However, it seems to be a nice feature. It tucks
into the PCMCIA slot, and can be used to control powerpoint
presentations when in windows mode. (And, of course, it can be used to
control the DVD and CD-ROM when running in those modes directly.

I've tried to buy it separately from hpshopping.com and from
hp/parts.com, and have called both, but while I can get a part number
(I believe it si 371694-001) I haven't been able to order it. They say
that I might be able to get it from a dealer that caries HP laptops
(Comp-USA, Office-Depot, etc), but I haven't had any luck with this
yet. The hp parts site says that the part is no longer supplied, but
this seems rediculous because the laptop just hit the streets a couple
of months ago.

Several magazine and news articles (Wall Street Journal, and PC-Mag)
seem to think it's a nice notebook, and both mention the remote (a $15
option), but I don't know how to get my hands on the remote.
Any ideas?
