Hello,
I have just purchased a HP Mini 110 netbook, and an external USB dvd writer.

I have a problem that the OS is seeing the dvd drive as a cd drive and as such I cannot write my films to DVD

(I have tried 2 different drives - same problem so it must be pc based

Can anyone tell me how to fix this, its extremely infuriating and ive run out of ideas

Have you loaded the software for the DVD writer?
Most of the time you have to load the software prior to connecting the device, Windows will sometimes choose and load the wrong driver, once its installed windows thinks eberything is great and will never ask for the correct driver.
Update the driver from the disk that came with the writer.
