Psp usb to pc

Hello,my pc w/win.xp does not recognize my psp when connected with a usb cable. psp stays on "please wait..."while pc does nothing,please help,thank you

When you plug it in, is there an icon in the system tray saying 'Installing Drivers' etc.? If so leave the PSP plugged in for 10 mins, come back to it and see if anything has changed.
