System will not post

I am putting together a system for my friend.
specs:
2.0gig opteron
asus sk8n MB
giga ram reg ecc PC2700 512X2
Soundblaster audigy 2 ZS
+other stuff that should not matter.
I can get the system to power on, but that is it. There is no system beep or anything. I have gone through this on an old opteron system and ended up switching the motherboard to Leadtek instead. But I really like this board and I know that it can work, I think I am missing some minor thing to get the system to boot. Any suggestions......

Try disconnecting your hard drives and everything but ram, vid card, CPU and HSF. If it posts something to the screen then you know it's your connectors or connections, either data or electrical, to one of your peripherals. I had a bad connection on my audigy card and my machine wouldn't post either. Hope this helps....
