But it's not!

I want to fill fields with data such as 4-7, or 5-9, but whenever I do, Excel automatically changes them to 7-April and 9-May. ARGH! It's driving me insane, and I can't figure out how to fix it! I'm pored through all the autoformat-related help files, but there is nothing that has worked. Can anyone help me?
