I posted a link to my home server for THG and two brief guides on pin definitions for overclocking, first the original PIII version was modified, and now, a P4 hardware overclocking guide! This is the first on the net that I know of, these things are rarely suggested, let alone wrote about. You can find this neat reading at ftp://141.209.46.238 and be sure to let me know what you think!

Downloading at 179KB/s here! However, that's still slow for my 3mbps net connection.

hey crash...wow...someone explain me this thing....
I have a dial-up connection...a lousy 56K..and i usually download stuff at 2-3kbs...max would be 5kbs for a couple of minutes.....but i was downloading your stuff at 22kbs...continously....how is that possible???,,,really??...can a dialup handle that??

P.S.yeah...this forum is growing boring by the day....and it seems noone at THG gives a [-peep-] about what's going on the forums lately....
even some guys PM fredi..or post some intelligent ideas...but to no avail....i even remember your post to tom pabst about your overclocking stuff...to which u also got no response.......THIS SUCKS!!!!!!

Thanks for the guides. Pretty fast download for me too.
You wouldn't have a PIII slot 1 guide up your sleeve?

FTP is usually faster than HTTP.

Also, if it's mostly text or easy compressable files, the software compression of your modem can do a great job to boost the effective download speed past the maximum speed achievable in theory.
I've seen text files sent at about 10kbs easily.
Also, it can be a display bug because 22kbs is very fast hehe!

Because it's more difficult to connect pins on Slot1, I recommend using a Socket 370 CPU on a Slot 1 adapter card.

Remember that some of those numbers are bits and others bytes. AMD_Man is gettin 179killoBytes per second, oymd 22killobits per second.

I think he was talking about kilobytes...
I download at 180 kilobytes (or about 1,5 mbits) too so I know the difference hehe!

Reply to Simon5

I upload at a max of around 1000 killobytes per second (1000KB/s) max. per line (I have two lines to two systems).

LOL, that's what? You got 2 T3 ?

Reply to Simon5

Actually the server I'm connected to has a few OC3's, three I think, but during low usage periods they turn one off. I'm not really sure what it is, except that it serves around 20,000 connections and that it uses several fat pipes, and that bandwidth is reduced during the off months.

Ok I see... but why you are limited to 10 mbits/s upload then?

Reply to Simon5

Because of the wiring.

Heh, it's sucks...
I actually found out that my network cable wasn't Cat 5 cable but Enhanced Cat 5 or if you prefer Cat5e... able to get 1gbps... and this is stuck to an ADSL modem... well... overkill !
