Oblivion and other games go black

when playing any game on my computer, after around 10 minutes the playing area of the screen will go black with some purple pixals.
that means that in say oblivion, tou can see the inventory and the surrounding tabs, but no images, for example the avatar while on inventory and the obveous black screen.
its strange as it has only just started happening and has been fine for months.

any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated

whats the specs for the game and can it run on the com
and is it to much for the graphic card?
