Lacie and Asus don't mix?

It's been a long night of frustrations.
New computer, MB is an Asus P4C-800E Deluxe (875P chipset).
Lacie Big Disk 500GB (FW800 & USB2 interfaces) (using USB2) will NOT be recognized by the Asus MB...updated drivers, reinstall the USB hubs etc. Nothing will do. The Lacie either shows up as Unknown Device or Mass Storage Device but still doesn't work.
At last, I plugged in my Adaptec DuoConnect FW400.USB2 card into the Asus MB. plug the Lacie into the Adaptec USB2 connection, and viola! Worked! So the incompatibility is between the USB2 on the Asus motherboard and the Lacie.
Any idea why? The USB2 is set to HiSpeed in the Asus BIOS already.

Did you bother playing with the USB Mass Storage Device settings while you were in the BIOS?

I found out what the prob was.
Another clean install of XP w/SP2. Instead of installing Intel's latest chipset drivers, I installed the one from Asus's site (v5 instead of v6). And viola! Lacie works!
