I'm looking at 3 Mobos: Asus A7N8X, A7V880, and Abit NF7-S V2. The A7N8X I can get for the best price where I live, this is a factor for me.

I'm not going to OC right away, but would like to have that option in the near future. Also, they all have SATA, does that mean I have to use a SATA drive or can I also use a ATA?

Thanks for any/all suggestions.

All boards with SATA also have ATA.

If you mean the non deluxe A7N8X, it does not have soundstorm. The Abit board does. Soundstorm is the way to go imho. The quality of sound is very good, and it takes less resources from the cpu than an add on card does. I have built on bothe boards, the Abit performs better.

Hey, thanks guys for your answers. I'm very new to build your own PC & OC'ing but I do have a good grasp of PC HW, SW, & FW since that is what I do for a living.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly it seamd that the Abit mobo is the best choice? Why? The reason I ask is because I can by the Asus locally but not the Abit and if I have any problem, I know I will get good support from the local dealer since I deal with him all the time, not sure about mail order.

I'm also now wondering if I really need SATA & Raid so maybe the Asus A7V440 will do but can it be used to overclock is my main concern in all of this. I probably sound like a flake, but given that I don't have any experience it this area, I just want to make sure I buy the right thing.

Thanks guys.

Many people in this forum have very good experience with ABIT nForce2 mobos. Personally, I have been using an ABIT NF7 v2.0 for last 15 months and it's the best mobo I've ever used. Never had any kind of problem with it. It's also known to be great overclocker.

Can you get GigaByte locally? Really Asus, Abit, and Gigabyte are all known for making good boards. Any will serve you will. I have owned both that Abit board and a GigaByte 7N400Pro2, the Abit board scored just slightly higher in RAM benchmarks, but being a GigaByte fan, I ended up keeping the GigaByte.

Basically performance will be comparable, with the Abit doing slightly better with handling RAM (In my expeierence).
