I am looking for help or suggestions with upgrades for my current system! I am currently running an AMD Athalon XP1900+ on a ASUS A7V266-E with 512 mb Kingston DDR PC-2100 and a NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200. I play a lot of games and spend a lot of time on the internet! I dont want to break the bank and start over but would to add to what I have, if possible! Oh, and have it keep at least a year or so!
Thanks Bill

Well, seems that your in the same boat as I. I'm too lazy to look up the processors that your motherboard can handle. I'm not ready for the 64-bit chips just yet because they are too expensive. So, I'm just going to upgrade my XP 2000+ to a XP 3000+ for just 140 bucks. Not bad if you ask me. Then my personal confuser should last me another two years. Then I'll start all over again.

Your memory might need to be upgraded considering it's only 2100 but hell mine is only 2700. Which I have no interest in upgrading at all.
Edited by bjpatrick on 10/17/04 02:23 PM.

The two avenues to look at are CPU and video card. You have enough memory for most uses.

Since I'd guess your motherboard is limited to 266Mhz bus speed, a processor with an unlocked multiplier would be best, like an XP-M mobile chip.

For a new video card, it might be easier to stick with NVidia, since you won't have to worry about uninstalling old drivers - just update to latest NVidia set before swapping cards - and buy what you can afford.

A new video card is probably much more important than a new CPU

You can get a mobile Athlon XP 2500+ and overclock it (via changing multiplier).

For graphics card, get a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
