Ok, so I just got a really good deal on a bundle from Intel.
3.4 ghz p4 w/ ht (socket T - LGA 775)
But my dilema is, the motherboard that came with it only supports pci-e and ddr 2. I really don't want to get a new video card and new memory... right now I've got a ATI 9600xt and 1gb of dual channel ddr400
I've heard good things about the DFI boards, and the ASUS ones too. I have 4 ata-133 devices, but 2 of them are hard drives.... so I guess i could get ata ->> sata converteres.
So what would you reccomend and why?
1. I like the port configuration better
2. Looks like it has 2 ATA connectors
3. It's the least expensive
4. Abit has a good reputation
5. Abit has a great RMA policy, should anything ever go wrong.

I just ordered a Soltek 915G since I have a PCI-e vidcard, but want to use DDR1 RAM. I've had good experience with them on Athlon boards, and the features are pretty good with the 865 hybrid chipset. It has a lot of IDE connectors (on-board raid for the IDE too), 4 SATA ports, Gigabit lan, other stuff. Are you planning a major vid card upgrade soon, so saving money? I'm wondering if a 6600GT would be a step up from the 9600 or not. In any case, I see absolutely no reason to buy DDR2 at this point, and probably not ever. I think DDR1 will be fine till DDR3 hits the market, lol.
I keep hearing how much people like ABIT, but I must have got a couple bum boards. I've had nothing but problems with this AA8 and I'm RMA'ing it for that Soltek. I don't know if it extends across all the 775 chipsets, but the SATA controller has issues with any kind of overclocking so if you plan on doing that I'd check into it for sure.
Gonna get rid of this overpriced DDR2 and get some good quality DDR. Even with a restock fee I'll still come out "ahead". Hell, I bet with the way timings are on P4's I could get away with some crap RAM and just loosen them up all the way lol.
