Is there different sizes to ethernet cables? of so which one fit a PS3

is there different sizes to ethernet cables?
i try plugging my yellow ethernet cable from my modem to my ps3 but it doesnt fit in my ps3, it will sit in there but there is no click when putting it in and the ps3 will not register it being there
Also what ehternet cable will fit in both my modem and my ps3?

ethernet is pretty universal, can you post up pics for a better idea of your problem?
