I was just wondering, i have an old 256mb 266mhz stick hanging around and i wanted to know if i can put it in an MSI 865Pe Neo2-Platinum which supports ECC memory... judging by the 4 year old memory stick i think it's NON-ECC... can this cause problems with the computer like crashes or blue screen?

DAMN... what could be causing the problems i have :/

could it be because it's old memory or because my board just doesn't support that noname company?

What processor, video card, and power supply are you using?

With the capabilities of your M/B it seems a waste to be running 266 RAM, even though the Motherboard can run it, that would be like crimping a waterhose, but you could do it and if you're having problems you may need to adjust your RAM timings, you didn't mention the other RAM modules you're running but if they're not the same speed as the 266 but faster then you would be at a serious disadvantage to run the 266 because the other RAM modules would clock down to 266, and you would seriously crimp your performance.

Do you have your memory clock running at 133? I don't know P4 bios' very well, but if you're running an 800fsb cpu and trying to run the memory at 1:1, I'm surprised it boots at all. If what I've gleaned is correct, your cpu:ram clock should be set to 3:2 (or is it 2:3 - probably 3:2) so you don't overclock your RAM.

Yes, it's changed in the BIOS. I have no idea what it looks like, but it's probably in chipset options or advanced options, and having something to do with FSB/RAM ratio or something like that. Sorry I can't be more help...

Mike.
