Planning to buy a Windows-based Hewlett-Packard a850y desktop and
wondering about the right video card to drive a 20" Apple Cinema
display for use with, among other things, Photoshop 8. So far as I can
determine, there are only three video solutions offered by HP for this
computer. Two have(I think) digital video interface connectors needed
by the Apple Cinema.
Although the cards of interest are video-game oriented, my interest in
that arena is limited to running the MS Flight Simulator once or twice
a year.
From specs seen at various web sites I can't determine whether the
256MB DDR ATI Radeon X600 Pro and the 128MB DDR ATI Radeon X300 SE
have 24-bit color. Nor can I determine whether the rich assortment of
software offered by the manufacter of these cards, including a video
driver, is provided by HP.
Not sure if this is the right forum for such a question; advice about
a better one would be appreciated. Can anyone comment on the
suitability of these cards for the described purpose?
