Finished Doom 3, what next?

I have finished Doom 3 in "marine and veteran" mode. I am also about 2/3 s
through Farcry in the "medium" mode. (Its allot tougher than Doom 3) What
would be another good fps game to get (for PC) along the same lines as these
two? I am not interested in using swords to fight with. I go for the heavy
firepower. I hear Halflife 2 might be one to consider. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Ron

You tried Painkiller?

There's not much of a story, but there's some hella good action. If you like
the "heavy firepower" orientated games then this is a winner.

It looks great yet is pretty easy to run compared to some other new(ish)
releases, and most importantly tis bloody good fun.

There's also an expansion pack coming out very soon, that features 10 new
missions, that apparently last as long as the whole original game.

Go check out some videos if you're unfamiliar. Oh, and it sounds like you're
not too familiar with Half-life itself? If not, check out the original
half-life + opposing forces, and blue shift - if you're not happy without
revolutionary graphics then you might want to wait for the source update of
these (it'll make them look much better, using the half-life 2 engine, or
something) Even so, they're guaranteed winners ;)

I strongly recommend Vietcong (on the highest skill level). This is a
superb game with great AI, and was overlooked due to some early multi-player
bugs. Anyway the singleplayer game is excellent, challenging, and very
satisfying story-wise. A few of the levels have the best firefights I've
ever seen in an FPS (like the Defend the Hill level). It's available now in
a 'Purple Haze' edition that includes the add-on pack they made for it.
Should be quite cheap in the bargain bin now.

I'll thankyou for that, Vietcong came with my Radeon 9800 Pro, but I'm yet
to try it. Guess it's worth a go then!

I played a couple of the Painkiller demos, I was not impressed. I'm
someone who absolutely loved Serious Sam, so I thought I'd like
Painkiller. If you didn't like the demos will you not like the game or
are the demos not a good preview?

Remember the patch. The 'quick fight' mode is good if you just want
20min of action.

Nor did I like the demos. Music was catchy though.

Not sure, went around with a crossbow killing gouls throwing pieces of

I remember going through a town and some kind of cloud city. I just
remember in the town the city would close up behind you and you couldn't
go back. There were some witches flying through the sky, that was about
the only thing I found cool. At the time I remember thinking how nice
it was to actually get a demo before the game was released, doesn't
happen often enough any more. Too bad the demo turned me off the game.
I probably would have bought it if I hadn't played them :p
I'm a complete wide open slut for games, I try to give 'em all a chance
and I almost always like games like Painkiller. I also recently tried
the Tribes Vengeance demo, pffft, didn't like it either.

I actually really like a game that has been generally panned, Star Wars
Battlefront. It's basically BF 1942 with blasters and tie fighters but
I find it fun.
I'm mostly waiting for HL2, like everyone else, though.

What do you know? My magical 5 on 1 CD that came with my graphics card is
actually 5 demos. No Vietcong for me! The demo seems ok though.

Two things I hate: realistic war games in general and WWII simulations in
particular. So of course I must recommend Call of Duty. It's so well done it
overcame my prejudices. Of course it's not a new game so you probably have
already played it, but if not have a look.

If you enjoyed the atmosphere in Doom3, I suggest trying something slightly
different in Thief: Deadly Shadows. Some areas are generally very
frightening. Should be a nice interlude before HL2.

I loved the stake gun! Ouite a good effect of impaling zombies against a
wall.
There was also the middle-eastern flavoured level, where you start off in a
mosqueish type building.
Then there was a kind of church you ran around in.
There was another demo which was a boss level basically, and reminded me of
the end boss in Serious Sam, only in fortress ruins.

My main dislike was the AI. Just hordes of creatures running (or shambling)
mindlessly toward you. I find that is only good for a couple of levels, so
it's not on my to-do list.
