Tom's had an article that said 1394A and B were made up names, that 1394 was the specification and FireWire 800 hadn't received that special (B) designation.

Yeah, I've seen it called a & b quite a bit also. Especially on sites selling external drives. they advertise them as IEEE1394b fw800
