Gigabyte 8KNXP & Intel 3.4Ghz CPU

I just installed an Intel 3.4Ghz CPU (478/Prescott) on a Gigabyte 8KNXP (V1) motherboard.

3DMark shows the internal clock speed as 2.9Ghz.

I suspect my next step is to go into the BIOS. I try to avoid this as this board does not have a CMOS reset jumper. You have to remove the battery.

Am I on the right track in regards to the BIOS? If so, can anyone post their experience with the BIOS that Gigabyte uses?

That doesn't sound right at all, the only reason I can think of that it would be running at 2.9GHz is clock throttling due to heat.
