I've been following the instructions to integrate my retail version of Windows XP (includes SP1, I think) with SP2, downloaded from Microsoft. As per:

http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto [...] on-03.html

It goes well until I attempt to run update.exe with the /integrate parameter. I get this error:

update.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

The log mentioned is apparently the DrWatson dumps. They report the failure as being an Access Violation. The slipstream log reports the execution of the command, including is command parameters, but has no further entries.

The machine I'm attempting this on: Windows 2000 SP4, plenty of disk space and memory.

Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Ok, I should have waited before posting.

Although I am still curious as to why it failed on my Win2000 machine, it works well enough on a Windows XP (SP2 already) machine. (I abruptly realized that I would have access to that machine, sorry.)
