Hey guys, I have an AMD quad core at 2.4GHz, an nVidia 9800GT w/ 1GB video RAM, and 3GB of system RAM. Whenever I play Starcraft 2 online, my frame rate will drop to 5-8 fps when there's a modest amount of action on screen but my two friends in the game are still around 30 fps. Their PC specs are comparable to mine and I even set the graphics options to Medium. Even when there's little action on screen, I top out at 45 fps while they're at 60+ fps.

Any ideas what's causing the slowdown on my end? SC2 even broadcast a message to us that I was slowing the game down. I have the most updated graphics drivers. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

There is a supposed heat issue. Try this

The fix is easy – you just need to add the following lines to your “Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt” file:

SC2 is quite CPU heavy, but doesn't take advantage of more than two cores, so I'm guessing your 2.4 GHz CPU might be contributing to this.

just a thought, but make sure your anti-virus software is not running because my comp comes to a crawl when it starts scanning.

make sure you update direct X - i just updated as i was having low fps issues since 1.02 update with a high spec system

went from 8-15fps on ultra to maxed on the 30fps max that is in the starcraft2/variables.txt file

still running cold and unmodified - love high spec
