Orange Box DVD not recognized

Problem: Orange box DVD isn't recognized/can't be seen or explored via explorer. Audible spinning with a few soft clicks. Everything works, save this.

Computer was recently built running Win 7 as the OS. The DVD drive has been checked (working), the DVD has been check (working, was installed on previous computer which was running Win XP). Help/solutions much appreciated.

No idea about the dvd itself, but you could just add the game to your steam account and then download from there?

He's already paid for the box. To download from Steam, he would have to buy the game online, i guess?

Try updating the drivers on your DVD-ROM. I had a similar issue and this helped.
