Hey guys, how is everyone doing ? Well i am looking to chage the MOBO on my PC but stick to my old CPU. I have a Intel P4 Socked 478 and am looking to buy a MOBO that will give me 800FSB, AGP8X and DDR400. I need to know which one would be the most ECONOMICAL one - not the best, not the cheapest. My budget is no more than $120 CAD.

Intel has done 3 wrong things in a row. They came out with prescott. They put it on a socketT, and they coupled it with DDR2.
Before that, they came out with the 865 chipset, and the P4c. They were/are great. Had they done a die shrink, rather than increasing the # of pipes, Amd would have some serious competition.
I dont want to have to recommend to people that they do the type of house renos that you did, just so they can have a fast stable computer.
I really do only mention your renovation, because I think having the skill to be able to do it is great.
The thing is, most people are used to having a cool system without that kind of work.

Have you read the article at Anandtech about what Intel is coming out with in the near future? They are ramping the 775 up to 2MB L2, among other things.

I'm guessing you mean <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2329&p=1" target="_new">http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2329&p=1</A>?
No haven't seen it.
The author was floating too high for me to be able to read anything between the lines.
Some of the stuff is a little over the top. That kind of enthusiasm, for a product he hasn't seen yet...
The part about centrino always being on time was truly absurd. Has any of the PM chips been released on time?
Was the whole thing written by the Intel PR department?
Okay, settle down . Yes, Smithfield being moved up to next Q is good. The extra cache might be nice. The relatively small price increase is welcome.
The big ? is, will a 135w tdp chip haul thier buns out of the fire? Only if it doesn't instantaniously combust, or go bust.
You will excuse me if I heard the same type of hype before P4, then Prescott got to hot, I kid you not.
