I have a freind's computer that I told them I would look at. It is an Asus A7v-e mobo, Duron 750, 512mb pc100 memory, with a 20gb 5400rpm drive running Win Xp Pro. All ram slots are full. From what I can find the mobo will support a Tbird running at 1Ghz. She wants it to start up faster.

What should I upgrade first? 7200rpm drive? 1Ghz Athlon cpu?

I would say the HDD...get a 7200, high capacity that she'll be able to use in her newer one she'll eventually get.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!

It's been a while so.. but I seem to remember that board having jumpers up to 15 1/2 for the multiplier, and to 133 for the fsb.
I know you can run the 1.4 t-bred on them. The problem is finding a 100/200 fsb chip.

The board will support a 1.3b T-Bird with 104C Bios. To run a 1.4b T-Bird you'll have to flash to 104D or better. I have the A7V 1.3b as my third PC I'm getting rid of. It has a 7200rpm drive and it's still woefully slow to boot. It's been a great machine for the last few years. If I was stuck with a 750 Duron in it I would take a hammer to it.
