Hello!

I am considering obtaining the Plextor PX-716SA:

- would there be a significant performance difference if I connected this through a PCI controller card Vs. the onboard SATA interface on my mobo?

- is this difference sufficent that I ought to just get the IDE version? (PX-716A)

Intel D875PBZ
Intel 3.4E Socket 478
512 MB DDR 3200 x2
ATI Radeon X800 Pro

I have another post in the DVD/CD section regarding my overall question if you'd like to check it out.

Thanks for your information/opinions!!!

The problem with PCI cards is that they all share the same bandwith to the southbridge. The onboard controller however usually has its own connection directly to the southbridge. This means that if you use a lot of PCI devices the PCI connection might be filled with data and everything will be queued.
