I just forked over $700 CDN on an XBOX, DVD Kit, extra game controller, 3 games, and an Advanced AV Kit. What I have now is a game system that plays games and DVDs in surround sound, and a music jukebox. With the XBOX the default res is 640*480 with AA on a regular TV. Only on an HDTV can you enjoy high-res 1024*768+ graphics (or the wide screen version of that, I don't remember the exact numbers). Anyway, I don't have an HDTV, even without an HDTV, the FSAA makes games on my TV look nearly as good as on my PC. The XBOX will support Unreal Championship (an XBOX verison of UT2003) and Doom3. It will also allows me to copy several CDs to it's hard drive and then play it through my sound system. The music is compressed on the hard drive in WMA format so I can have hundreds of hours of music running in the background. I can chose those songs to play in some games or I can just keep the volume up so I can listen to music as I do something else. Homework for example.

Really, the XBOX isn't merely another game system but one that will not only play next gen games but also act as a WMA jukebox and a cheap DVD player.

Ohh, it plays DVD's. (if you fork out an extra 30bucks for the DVD play back kit... (or a dongle)

it supports HDTV (if you fork out 30 bucks for a dongle)

it supports 5.1 suround sound (if you fork out 30 bucks for a dongle)

it lets you copy CD's to the hdd.. (if you fork out.... )

you get the idea..

Yup, I would say that's pretty good for all the stuff I bought. With all the boxes to open it felt like Christmas in August!

Wow, Christmas in August...so I'm guessing you'll get the Radeon 9700 for Christmas then...or maybe not since you can play Doom III on your xbox.

i've got an even better reason for buying one...micosoft loses money on each x-box sold, somewhere between $75-$200 for each box.

Reply to ethlax18

but they gain money on each periphreal and game sold.

 Unbelievable! You must have an awful TV. The XBOX apparently doesn't support progressive scan but it does do the entire decoding process through software, so ever pixel is rendered perfectly before it reaches your TV. I can't believe you think the XBOX DVD quality sucks. Of course, it's ot as good as a high-end DVD player but it sure beats any $200CDN ($130US) DVD player I've seen being played at stores. Also, make sure you get the Advanced AV Kit. Quality improves quite a bit with S-Video over composite in my opinion. The Advanced AV Kit also adds Dolby Digital 5.1 support. I don 't have an HDTV and I don't plan to get one any time soon so I didn't get the HDTV kit so I can't tell you how the DVDs look on an HDTV.

As a final note, composite video blurs the image a bit on my TV.

Shall we list the PS2 and Gamecubes "Fork out" accesories and additions? PS2 is the worst with Xbox and Gamecube trailing behind. All consoles have extra accesories to enable features. No biggie.

Nah....but maybe we should list PS2's gazillion-game library.

Disregard my previous post.

How much did you get from M$ to post this thread?

My watercooler contains so much water that the moon has influence upon it  .

Hmmm, you could do the same with a mini PC, and more, plus cheap games, etc.

Was just thinking that myself. I have seen some very cool mini's, one in particular was utilising an old VCR case!

I thought you bought an XBox because it has an Intel processor in it......

As far as game consoles go, it is by far the most capable. I have XBox, PS2, and Gamecube. XBox outshines them all. If only the XBox games were better.......

No, I bought the XBOX so I won't have to upgrade my graphics card for another year.

But wouldn't buying a new gfx card be cheaper?

Disregard my previous post.

>>If only the XBox games were better.......

My point exactly! Which is why I bought a PS2, even though the graphics are "crappy" compared to an eXbox, I pay to play quality games.
Heck, I even bought an N64 just to play Zelda64, and sold it right after I beat it.....hmmmm, I might do the same and buy a GameCube just to play the next Zelda and sell it afterwards too...heh.

Disregard my previous post.

For now XBOX has only a decent set of games but come November with the release of XBOX Live and the XBOX will have extremely capable online games that will make the PS2 and GameCube look like child's play.

Microsoft definitely has the $$$$ to release tons of games very quickly.

I've really thought about getting an xbox. But not for me =)

Consoles can be fun. I have fond memories of conversing with Dr. Jim Beam and playing Diddy Kong Racing against some punk-@$$ llamas...

XBOX is wicked. So far I have 3 games for it. Max Payne, Odd World: Munch's Oddessy, and Dead or Alive 3. I plan to get Halo and Project Gotham Racing soon. I'm not getting any sports games until November when I can play them online.

Everyone is so hyped up about halo. I didn't think that game was that great. I'm yeah it's a good FPS but it's not the best that's ever been made.
