I've been looking to get build a new gaming computer. I was looking at the socket 939 3200+. I was wondering what you guys would recommend as a good "bang for the buck" mobo. It has to be AGP board as I already have a 6800 in AGP. I'm willing to spend about $130 on the board. But the cheaper, the better. Should I go for the nForce or VIA chipset? Anything that I should steer clear of? Also, I know this isnt the correct forum, but I was wondering what would be some decent ram to put in there. Thanks guys!

Whichever mfr you choose, I would go with the nVidia nF3 Ultra chipset. Are you going to OC the system?

For the price of S939 3200+ and nForce3 Ultra mobo, you can get 2.4 GHz A64 3400+ and nForce3 250Gb based mobo (MSI K8N Neo Platium for example), which will perform almost as good as overclocked S939 3200+ at stock speed. Though it's not a good CPU for overclocking, you can always overclock a little, if you want.

If you're going to OC, then I would go with something like one of the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-006&depa=1" target="_new">Patriot PDC1G3200LLK</A> or possibly the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-009&depa=1" target="_new">Patriot PDC1G4000ELK</A> for RAM. Agree that you should go for the s754, nF3 250GB chipset. I think either the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-190&depa=1" target="_new">Abit NF8</A> for $88 or the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-136-147&depa=1" target="_new">DFI Lanparty UT nF3</A> for $109 would be a great mobo.

In my opinion, I would downgrade to the AMD64 3000+ from the 3200+... you're basically paying a $50 premium for 200 extra Mhtz, and you could use the $50 you save purchasing something else... of course that is just my opinion :smile:

Here's what you get:

Soltek K8TPro-939 (super cheap Via board that's rock solid with great support)
A64 3200+ S939

10x260 = 2.6 GHz is very doable

I have the 3000+ and this board and it doesn't like going much past 260 fsb, so I'm stuck a little lower cause of the multiplier. Great board, great speed, great features.
