Can an HD 5970 max Far Cry 2?

Forum Video Games : PC Gaming Can an HD 5970 max Far Cry 2?

Can a Core i7 + an HD 5970 (my rig) max Far Cry 2 and still get a playable framerate? FC2 runs much smoother than Crysis on it's highest settings.

Of course it is less demanding than crysis and much more optimised.Graphics wise it is gorgeous.

IMHO, it looks better than Crysis. But my monitor only goes up to 720p resolutions.

FC2 and Crysis have totally different visuals but I do agree with above....I like FC2 graphics a little better. I find Crysis foliage a little pixelated where FC2's foliage is silky smooth looking.

You have to tell us the native resolution of your monitor or else your question really can't be answered BUT.... the 5970 is no slouch with FC2.

The HD 5970 should be able to max out any game other than Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Metro 2033. I would probably need a second HD 5970 in CrossfireX, and then superclock and watercool them (Four GPU's) if I wanted to max those games.

Maxing FC2, Fallout 3, BFBC2, should be fairly easy.

My monitor only goes up to 1680x1050 resolution.

Well it looks like you knew the answer all along.

CARE ABOUT your money ...no need to get that high VGA card ... tru 5850 & 5870 ..they are GOD of Gaming VGA cards ... no game will LAG ON IT ..be sure !!!

Reply to SamikSamik

Yeah right, a 5850? Every game but left 4 dead will lag on it.

Reply to SpinachEater

Oh no ... Left 4 Dead needs to much less than farcry 2 or Crysis .. i am runing FARCRY 2 in highest settings with no LAGs on my 9600 GT 1Gb so imagine how powerfull 5850 is ..go & see benchmarks for your self ..you wont find GA card as good as 5850 !!

Reply to SamikSamik

At what resolution and AA/AF settings?

Reply to SpinachEater

All are highest ...AA is 8 & rez is 1440 .. & rest of setings are on ULTRA high ..with no LAGS ... see !! if my 9600 can handle it .... 5850 surly does ...if you pay more & get higher VGA card you will see no Diffrence but you already got you money spent on thing that is not VALUABLE !! not only farcry ... allgames will run smoothly with this setings on 5850 !!! & dont get CORE i 7 its powerfull but its not real QUAD CORE & ...Try to GET Q9400 or higher ...its real QUAD CORE & its very powerfull CPU that matches with almost all mobos ...but by geting CORe i7 you need to pay for mobo too

Reply to SamikSamik

Many has played latest games with Q9000 series .... & they were so satisfy .... i wanna go for it & ALSO wanna get 5850 . CORE i7 is just expensive but you wont need more than Q9000 series so why are you planing to fire your money

Reply to SamikSamik

I didnt finished it just reached to MAP 2 ... butaway i am not lying GAME runs realy fast & with ultra high setings & aa8 i have no reason to lie to anyone .... i have 4GB ram too... BUT its because of 9600 that runs fast ... i am enjoying of playing it but havnt killed JACKAL yet ...

Reply to SamikSamik

But away i realy care about the speed of my windows & i do every thing to games run fast ...so 10% of games speed depends on user & its PC .... Why i should lie to you or any one else ... i experience little laging in CRYSIS Warhead on highest setings 1440 Rez & AA0 ... specialy the part that sun comes up & player should go down to the beach

Reply to SamikSamik

I CANT say with frame rate ... but played even on 8x & i had no laging problem ..... 5850 surly wont have smallest problem

Reply to SamikSamik

Your probably using win7 or vista

Reply to SamikSamik

Well for one, a 1440 resolution is not all that great. I was rocking out a 1440x900 monitor not too long ago and it seems like I would always get the same performance as 1600 resolution benchmarks (seeing that they usually have a massive OC on their CPU).

Still, I was running a 4870 with that setup and I wouldn't say FC2 was running stellar and that card leaves a 9600 in the dust.

Well anyway, to put it to rest, look at this benchmark, it stacks all of the cards in question and you can assume the 5870 xfire is equal to the 5970.

I should not trust all benchmarks ... becuase VGA producers pay a lot of money to others show higher becnhmark of theire product ... So any way 1440 rez is better ..because you dont have to pay for higher VGA card & it s SuitableRez for every VGA ...go for 5850 ... you realy wont see any laging on higher Rez ... & you should know that keep your windows healthy makes games run faster ... see 9600 is not that powerfull but i can run FARCRY 2 without any LAG ... 5850 is 100 times better than 9600 ... 5850 some times beat 5870 too ...look at the COD 6 benchmarks ... you should know that PSU should be high enough for VGA card that you buy ..to you see its whole power ... if you buy 5850 ... & then you wont need very expensive hardwares to match with it ... its cheap & its great !!! not even GREAT is enough for this Monster

Reply to SamikSamik

in higher Rez VGA cards get fainter ..you should know that even highest systems sometimes cant handle some part of games because of too high rez ..1440 is not low rez ..its realy suitable ... My recomandation to you is to get high PSU first likeCorsair 650TX & then GET 5850 & very great CPU like Q9400 Quad Core ...if your rams are ddr 2 800MHZ so you dont need to change them .. this SYSTem called GAME SYSTEm { HIGHE - END } all games will run smoothly ...if you update your DRIVERS & keep your PC clean & Healthy !!! if you realy have to much money & you dont care about paying a lot for a PC so go for 5970 & i7 but you will see no diffrence both can run GAMES just GREAT !!

Reply to SamikSamik

Think what ever you whant !! i dont care but anyway i am not lieing ...& i am enjoying of playing it that fast .... I REALY HAVE NO REASON TO LIE TO YOU ..why cant you understand ...you think all peoples are BAD ? i dont say i am ANGLE ...but i realy try too help why i should LIE ??

Dude... :pfff: The first problem is most 9600GT cards were released before FC2 even came out so there are are almost nill for benchies since everyone reviews the cards upon release and then forgets about them. Second...tell me one site that takes money to make cards look as if they perform better.

Leave it up to Toms though....Their GPU charts have the 9600GT 1GB pulling 30.2 FPS at 1680x1050, 4AA, 8AF, Very High Quality. I am not sure of their CPU settings and I don't care because even a miracle OC will not get you to a standard 60FPS with that card.

I will believe benchmarks before I believe you BUT...I will give you some credit and say I believe you that you are getting a lag free performance. I would believe that is is possible that 1GB of vram and vsync being enabled on the 1440 resolution will get you a smooth 30FPS.

I had no problems in running Far cry 2 in full specs with my Radeon 4850....Only thing was the anti aliasing thing which would go only upto 2x..But the game looked really damn good in that..Silky smooth thats wat it was.....Crysis , I was able to run it in 1400x900 and with 0 AA...It too was looking really cool!!!!

Reply to shane_ram

Oh it sure can , Because i have 9600GT 1GB & i can MAXOUT farcry & play it with no lag , MAXOUT mean every option set to highest . so 5970 is 100X time better than my 9600 GT so how it can have problems with this GAME ? IF u havent get this rig yet then i suggest u to go for lower system & save money , because that rig is realy too high , but any way its UR Call body .
