Hard OCP says DFI poor choice for 24/7 Operation?

Once again we saw a DFI motherboard fail when it comes to long-term stress testing. By “long-term,” we mean in excess of 24 hours. While most of the latest heavy hitters from the likes of ABIT, ASUS, and MSI will literally run error free for days under 100% load, that is not the experience we have had with DFI motherboards.
I leave my PC running 24/7. I often have it running at 100% cpu utilization for more than 24 hours.

1) Does this mean I should steer clear of DFI motherboards?

2) If so can anyone recommend a solid nforce 4 motherboard which can handle a heavy load 24/7 without crashing.

3) Also are the NForce 4 boards mature enough to warrant a purchase or should I just buy a $200 graphics card for my NForce 4 XP2400 system and wait awhile.

Thanks

Depending on what you are running to utilize the cpu at 100% (SETI, or one of those other programs) will determine if you are stressing the mb. In the case of SETI, not even close to putting a load on the mb.

We have one fellow in the chat who even dislikes ASUS for 24/7, unless it's a server board.

It's fairly serious business for him too since the boards were apparently used in scientific application.

The most common reasons for a system failing after 24 hours, are poor psu, or overheating v-regs. Bothe of these should be blamed on the builder, rather than the hardware.
There realy isn't any reason a motherboard would cuase such a problem.

I decided to go with the MSI Neo 4 Platinum. I am more interested in 24/7 stability than in overclocking.

For all I know the long term stability issue only applied to SLI configuration running graphics benchmarks, but I didn't want to take the risk.

Good luck with you MSI... I guess that if you have it not failing within 5 days, it should last.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!

Friends of mine had similar experiences with DFI motherboards, AMD K5 board, so it was a long time ago. :)

All I know is that Hard OCP had no reservations about the MSI declaring THE board to get.

Then they review the DFI and are blown away but everything with one nagging reservatsion, it fails their long-term stability testing.

They are great boards for the vast majority of people who turn their PC off every night or never keep thier CPU at 100% for more that a day.

But I sometimes convernt 5-10 movies to DivX at a time and I like to restart my OS no more than two or three times a month.

PS I just learned that there is OCZ has memory that will run at 533mhz at 2-2-2 but it uses 3.0v which is only avalibale on the DFI, or via a "booster module" which fits into a DIMM slot.

DFI is THE choice for overclockers, just not for me.

Yeah, that memory is sick. It can handle running 3.5v all day without voiding the warranty. But it not only can handle the high voltage, it needs it to perform it's best. So it's booster or DFI. It looks to be the perfect sticks to buy with that DFI for all those  OC'ers out there. (you know who you are)
