Hello, my girlfriend just rented a room from a nice couple here in CA. The room is equiped with a DSL line, already hooked up to a router. I pluged the line into her computer (Linksys 100/10mb), yet IE and every other program doesn't detect it. They want to dial-up to connect to the internet.

It's been a few days now, I've tried everything I can think of and now my g/f is getting mad cause i'm supposed to be the 'computer nerd'. I can't figure this darn thing out. Can anyone help me? Please?

Have you tried running the wizard?

In control panel->internet options->connections tab, there is a button at the top of the window which starts the wizard.

Yeah, I've tried that. The Linksys doesn't show up on the drop down window, but the modem and it's adapters do.

is the Linksys properly installed in the control panel?

If so, is the Lan connection (in the network and dialup applet in the control panel) set to obtain IP address automatically?

It's always the one thing you never suspected.

Something is wrong if you are seeing dropdown menus with your modem.

Are you sure that on the first page of the wizard you selected the option which says something like "connect to the internet through a LAN"?

First you need to goto your browser. Click on Tools/Internet Options/connections and in there and clcik on the option "Never dial a connection". Then go into LAN settings and make sure all the option are unchecked.

Done that? Tell us if it worked. [hopefull]

~ Gotta question? Tried searching the boards first? Good! Ask away! ~
