How about the newer Empire Total War and Napolean Total War? Or are these not very graphically intense?

they are..your system can take the game...and with ultra high too..your card's nice and nice rams...

No. That's very misleading.

You should be fine for MTW2, I can max that out on my rig (19x12), and was able to max it out on a Dual Core, with 2x4870s.

However, I can NOT max out ETW. This is a very demanding game, and it seems to be GPU limited on my machine. Crossfire 4870s are probably more powerful than a 5770, so you will find you have to ease back on some of the in game settings.

Would I have been better off going for the 5870 then for ETW? Can the 5870 max out ETW?

Do you have some benchmarks to back this up? As I say, I have crossfire'd 4870s which are fairly close to a 5870 in most situations. I cannot max out at 19x12.

A lot depends on resolution, so as I said before, it's misleading to just say HDxxxx will max out game X

no benchmark at this moment from a quick look but i can run ETW at 1920x1080 on ultra with a 9800gt 1gb and the 5870 is more poweful than that.

I found some benchmarks for ETW. Note, this is running at 16x10 on a GTX280

Even with some powerful CPUs, we're still looking at framerates only just in the double digits. This may be acceptable for some, but I found the main battle map was too choppy when I maxxed out the graphics.

that really does seem strange because like i said i can run it fine on ultra with no slowdown even with full armies. I would say mine runs at a lowest of 25fps

Well the 5870 is more powerful than the GTX280 used in the benchmark, so that would be part of the explanation of the difference between your experience and the benchmarks.

19x10 (your resolution) and 19x12 (my resolution) are fairly similar. It could just be that we get similar frame rates, and I am just more picky.

your just too picky   haha...as long as the game runs and looks good that should do it...i have the sam card as fizzy con carne and im having no problems maxing out games..
