The delay can occur anywhere along the route of the message. Although
in many cases it may be VZW's problem, often it isn't. If I send an
e-mail from my desktop computer to my handset, it has to go through my
ISP's connection, then to their backbone provider, then to my web
hosting provider's e-mail server, then back out to the net to find
it's way to VZW's servers, where it will hopefully make it to my
handset. Have one of those paths temporarily backed up, and the
message will be delayed.
Do you notice the delay at certain times of the day or on certain days
more often than other times? I notice SMS sometimes runs slower here
between 6-9PM on Friday evenings. That sounds like a VZW network
traffic issue to me.
