Hello everyone.

By all means, my computer should be playing the latest and greatest games with no trouble at all. These are my specs.

Celeron 2.6
Geforce 6600 256 megs of ram
512 RAM

However, I experience massive slowdown in some games such as KOTOR, Far Cry, CS: S yet have perfect fps at max settings in games such as UT2004. In fact, I can't even run a flash file in firefox at proper speed, when I could on an old P2.

I KNOW my computer can run some of these games at their full potential, ive seen a 5200 and my exact processor run these games better. So I believe that the problem lies in my motherboard, its the only thing I haven't tried.

The Abit V17 is my motherboard. If there is any known problems with this board, please let me know, and if a simple driver will fix my problem, id appreciate helping me find it.

I am a at a loss here and I hope you guys can help,

thanks,
Matt.

How the hell did you end up getting a VIA chipset board? You could have bought an Intel 865PE chipset board for $50 had you looked around a bit.

It would have to be an nvidia thing in general then, because I've had a 5200, 5600 and 5900 in there with the same results.

And since I'm kinda clueless as to what to get to update my BIOS as Mr Nuke suggested, can anyone give me a hand?

Download <A HREF="http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/motherboard/motherboard_detail.php?pMODEL_NAME=VI7&fMTYPE=Socket 478&pPRODINFO=BIOS" target="_new">here</A> to begin with, adnt then read <A HREF="http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/download/guide.php" target="_new">this</A>. This should clarify it for you.

BTW, you can find the flash utility <A HREF="http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/download/download_detail.php?pFILE_TYPE=Utility&pMAIN_TYPE=Others&pTITLE_ON_SCREEN=Award+Flash+Utility" target="_new">here</A>.

A few quick questions.
1-Is this a northwood, or prescott celery?
2-What fsb are you running?
3-What type of ram do you have?
4-Is your mem in sinc with the fsb?
5-Did you load the latest hyperions?
6-What detonator are you running?
7-What kind of sound card are you using?
The wrong answer to any of these questions could be your probem, so please answer all.
