Which of the following would be the best is any case scenario.

1. SOLTEK SL-K8T-939FL VIAK8T800 PRO (DUAL CH/FSB2000)
2. MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM NFORCE3 ULTRA (NOT DUAL CH/FSB400)
3. ABIT AV8 VIA SOCKET 939 (VIA CHIP/FSB2000)
4. GIGABYTE K8NS ULTRA-939 NFORCE3ULTRA(DUAL CH/FSB2000)
5. MSI K8T NEO2-F VIA K8T800 PRO (DUAL CH/FSB2000)
6. SOLTEK SL-K8TPRO-939 VIA CHIPSET (DUAL CH/FSB2000)
7. ABIT AV8 3RD EYE VIA K8T800 PRO (DUAL CH/FSB2000)

Enlighten me on the above boards. I'm thinking about gettting a new one, and this is where I started.

I wouldn't pick any of those boards. The two with the best chipsets are not the favorites for stability, overclocking, and performance.

What would you choose other than those?? I'm interested in finding something much better than mine....

You're not going to get a huge performance increase by just switching the mobo. At the most you MIGHT get 3-5%. The real benefit of switching the mobo would be going to the enthusiast preferred nForce chipsets.

What performance deficiency is making you want to swap out mobos?

Well ok you got me there. I'm not really experiencing any thing wrong. I'm just looking for more power....hehe. 3-5% isn't what I was really looking for. I beleive you totally. I guess my board is capable of OC, and I guess I'll try it, and see how far I can push it. I'm one of those types that isn't settled for just stock. I like pushing things to the limit to near break. It forces me also to buy something else new and better if and when it does. Strange concept I know. Heres a good one......I bought a bfg 6800 geforce 256mb just because the water on farcry didn't look good.....roflmao. I'm kinda waiting to purcashe a better processor, but so far everything seems fine on my comp.....which disturbs me kinda....

I assume that is a Winchester core A64. If yes, has it downclocked the RAM to 333Mhz? Did you have to manually increase to 400Mhz? If yes, then is it stable gaming/benching at 400Mhz? Have you tried benching with only 1GB installed? What are the performance differences between the two setups?

I don't know how good/bad that board OCs. You will probably get a better OC with only 1GB RAM installed unless you change the FSB/DRAM ratio to keep the RAM close to 400Mhz. If the computer works fine and handles the programs/games you need it to, then leave it as it is. If there's no reason to stress the system by OCing, then hold off until you need that extra power boost. JMHO...

I read in a different thread that if you don't use it having more RAM will actually slow you down. Maybe somebody remembers that thread and can link to it. Maybe just having 1G of RAM and OCing it will give you a good enough improvement

You are correct. That thread was in the memory forum - I don't have a link. Basically, when you have more memory than you use, it takes longer for the memory to address the excess space, than if you had less memory. i.e. the system has to look in all 2GB of memory instead of only having to look thru 1GB of memory.

IIRC Wizzer took part in those threads...

I have it setup 2:1 400mhz. I have both my matching pairs hooked up. I actually have similar scores now that I changed my bios memory configuration a little. I was getting lower scores at first with both matched pairs, but it was set at 1:1 200mhz. I changed to the 2:1 400mhz, and the system benched much higher. I was getting similar results with the one matched pair. with the 2:1 400mhz. BTW, am I understanding that ratio correctly. Is it set right for the dual channel ram??

at the moment I have a brain fart....and actually dont remember what chip I got...shesh...anyway....no it doesn't down clock....the real time clock shows around 202.? mhz without OC with 2-3-3-6

Just on memory the mobo downclocked the ram to pc1600 when it was set to 1:1 200mhz with both matched pairs, and pc2700 with one matched pair of ram set at also 1:1 200mhz. The actual clock I'm not sure on either of them.

I'd probably get an Abit board. But basically there are lots of choices in reputable boards from Abit, Epox, Chaintech, and DFI, at a variety of prices, and I'd choose based on features.

First find out exactly what ram, cpu, mobo (including bios version and revision if that applies), hsf, psu and gpu you have. Next do yourself a big favor and go out and chk out the OC'n forums. If you're really interested in OC'n, start reading through the different threads. Another important(vital?) place to check is out on many of the big sites...anandtech, hardocp, overclockers forums...there will be all sorts of great articles on how certain piecies of equipment overclock.

If you want to be safe, OC'n without information is definately NOT the way to go. =/

Read as many articles as you can get your hands on, we'll help out as you need it!

If that is a Version 2 board it should have a working PCI/AGP lock. Use 2 ram modules in slots 1 & 3 (I think) or put one in the first slot of each color. You can raise the FSB from there. If you have a Version 1 board you will not want to clock past about 215mhz due to instability. With a version 2 you should see 230mhz+ easy.

I have oced to 210...which made the clock 2100 Mhz core, and the FSB 420mhz. The only thing I really did see was that during cinematics on a game I seen green specs all over the place, but not to alarm I seen these without ocing. Just more I beleive. What are those little green specs on the screen during this?

Sounds like video corruption. Have you locked the AGP bus? If not, then your OC is OCing the AGP bus, too, and may be the cause of this data corruption.

Well you want to keep it at 66/33 cause your HDD may corrupt at higher PCI clocks.
