For now, unwired means unlisted. That may change

As it states in the news article the cellular carriers are putting a list
together and it will be voluntary as to have your number included in the
directories. As I stated a few weeks ago the major carriers don't want to
lose customers via placing their wireless numbers in a 411 or directory
assistance since wireless is much more expensive than home service and the
fastest way to lose customers is to violate the privacy of that paying
customer.

Good article well worth reading.

You're a few months late with this "news." This has been known for
several months now.

Actually I have also stated that Verizon would not list their users since
many folks don't want to be listed. The story states that Verizon will not
publish nor allow any of its customers to publish their numbers voluntary or
not. The past few months were speculation now it has been answered as fact.
Big difference.

You can list your cell phone number at wyty.com . I don't want to be listed
either.

If they say they will not list your number, then why did they recently add a
clause to their contract allowing them to release your number?

My guess would be that they (Verizon) was considering the move to
publishing the numbers but had a brain cell that worked and realized
that folks would leave them in droves. As in the article "cellular
phones are built on privacy" the users would not want their numbers to
be given out and that the new laws in Washington will also make it
that Verizon Wireless and all other carriers cannot charge to keep the
numbers private, as they do with your home phone. So there is no money
to make here so they (Verizon) will not expend any to give them out in
reverse. makes perfect sense to me.

It doesn't look like anyone does. Try running a search for the last
name Smith for any state.

I would believe it only if they removed or reworded that clause to say they
would not give out private information without prior written approval.
