i have a notebook compaq pesario 1200 model : 1214sr
it has windows ME on it.
When i turn it on after the compaq screen loads it goes
to a black screen and beeps constantly unless i hit the esc key.
then it will load into windows.
any ideas or help would be great

Sounds like the BIOS found a hardware problem. Enter the BIOS and look if you can find anything wrong like temperatures... Also check which monitoring systems have been switched on (temperature, S.M.A.R.T., battery, POST) and try disabling them one by one and see if the problem disappears.

ok f10 gets me into bios
but their isnt really many options in here.
their is tabs for main,boot,exit
i dont see where to disable the compaq screen anywhere in here or anything else?

There should be a display logo on power up option.
Don't you have a (hardware) monitoring section anywhere? Or something to do with (system) safety or integrity?

when i press f10 i get into bios i have mai,boot,exit options?

Should be somewhere in the boot section logically...

See if you can find the manual (on the Compaq website). It should say something about the BIOS, and, more importantly, beep codes.

And after thinking a while I think it me have something to do with the system RAM test which fails in the POST. Maybe someone can confirm this???
