I am looking into replacing my old motherboard but I currently have 4 hard drives on my system as well as a DVD burner and a CD burner. Two of the hard drives are on my RAID controller and all devices are IDE. I would like to keep my drives (120GB each) and have the option to expand to SATA drives.

What are the options that I have as I am on a budget.

Thanks

I am thinking in the same lines. I want to build the best bang for the bucks. I am planning to keep my old PAT HDs, but would like the ability to use SATA (150) or even SATA 2 (Not sure if this is out). I plan to use AGP 8 (ATI AIW 9700 pro). Would like to replace the motherboard, CPU, and Memory - Thinking of Patriot or Crucial Billistic or better price&performance memory). I would like to use AMD over Intel if it is better in the following order, performance, less heat, dual channel memory (>= 400 mhz), faster than 3200+ or 3.2 Ghz, PCI express, and LAN 1000/100/10.

Any good suggestions?

Thanks, Peter

Athlon 64 beat Intel in most situation, except in some Multimedia or multitasking benchmark. If you do a lot of multitasking (lots of apps loaded at the same) you'll probably find an Intel PC more "smooth". Get a S939 A64 with SSE3 supports and you'll be satisfied!
