That's a good thing? I hate the last day of summer vacation, cause it marks the beginning of the torture named school. So when r the next vacations or 3 day weekends?

Do you guys have to wear school uniforms? It's great seeing 17 year olds all wearing the same drab grey kit every day in Ireland. Some guys make token gestures of rebellion, such as loosening their tie. Very sad.

 My dick is so big that it occupies two different time zones

Reply to WingDing

Nope, no uniforms, but no shits w/ profanity either, although we still wear em:)

Wow!! IIRC you're just starting Grade 11 right? That's a pretty heavy workload you've got there. And don't you have to take math and some language courses and stuff? Over here, I've gotta take at least a language and a math every year, but I'm gonna take all the math and sciences I can.

Ahh yes, I'll be spending another $200 for books this comming Fall term. That's $200 I could've spent on buying a really nice chair, or a mobo/cpu upgrade, or taking my gf to a nice restauraunt....ah well.

Disregard my previous post.

About a year ago I saw a story about a new way of publishing books. You pay a fee for a pdf copy, then if you want hard copy you go to a bindery kiosk and they print out a paperback version for 2-20 bucks depending on the size of the book. So for a $100 book you pay say $5 for the pdf and $10 for the printing and voila, the publishers get their money and you get your book that your only going to read once anyway.

I'll be spending $800 for books by year's end!

Well, I was going to take French and Spanish but learning different languages wouldn't appease my passions. I'd prefer VB and Java over French and Spanish any day.

Of course, I'm taking English. I'm also taking IAPS (Introduction to Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology).

Muhaha! So I get an essay analysis assignment for English, a couple of pages of math. For comp sci, I have to buy a copy of VB .NET, and for Cisco, I have to buy $100 worth of technical manuals. It's not all bad. I'll have CCNA certification by the end of Grade 12!

Yeah, all I get is crap. I like that u can choose ur courses to ur liking, ie science and math (that's what I like too, to me english and history can suck it), but it's mandated in my school we take them, so here I am, stuck doing something I hate. Also, we have 1 comp sci course- c++.

Why do people expect schools to start off light? They should start hard and finish strong. It makes for a better class.

LoL. Maybe they are being light on you, but summer has taken its toll so it seems hard... I doubt it. Teachers usually go full force from the start as they should. Nothing to get you back into gear quicker than a swift boot in the ass.

right on. I never did my homework at home. heh in chemistry I did it while the teacher was grading. she'd stand over my back and read the answers as I frantically scribbled the answers to the questions she hadn't got to. She thought she could catch me at first, but then just said pass homework forward... grrr.. anyways I made an A in that class and don't even remember doing anything.

Reply to Yahiko81

In my case it was often because I just didn't know the answers anyway, so I'd wait until the morning and copy the answers from my mates in return for some cigarettes or a quick 'bumming' behind the bike shed....

I had always done pretty well in school. Then only classes I got bad grades in were College Prep English 105 and Sociology. I had to do a term paper. We could do it on anything. It had to be 15 pgs long, we had to use at least 10 different sources and had to have 80 notecards of info form those sources. I did my on The Trojan War (cause i've always fancied that), well I only did 28 note cards cause that's all I needed. I typed my paper and had my gf's mom proofread it she's also an english teacher but for a different school district. She said it was probably an A- paper. No less than a B. I turned it in to my English teacher. Got it back and it said 50% F. I was so pissed. When she went over our papers she couldn't tell me why I got an F. She tried to make excuses like the sentences didn't transition or something like that but I showed her where they did. I took her to the Principal and confronted her down there and she told him that I had picked a topic that wasn't allowed. So basically she didn't like the subject (even though she had previously approved it) and gave me an F. So I ended up with a D in the class cause that paper was worth 2/3 of our grades. Oh and I had to do a research paper in Sociology and one of the topics was Mythology so I wanted that, but the sociology teacher told me that I couldn't cause I had already done my english term on that. I told her that the trojan war is just the tip of the Iceburg in mythology, but she wouldn't let me. Anyways to make a long story short I just didn't do one cause I'm stubborn. Ended up getting a C in that class cause that paper wasn't worth as much. Anyways other than that I had A's or B's in all of my classes.

Reply to Yahiko81

You can pull that in class stuff for easy courses (actually, in some cases the teacher saw I already knew what she was teaching, so she/he let me skip homework if I got 100 on the tests, which I did), but when it comes to a 10 page essay due in a day, u better work on it at home, cause there's no way in hell u'll finish it before class.

What if you had admin rights to life?

Reply to Flamethrower205

It's depends on the person. A 10 page essay in a subject you love is easy to spout out. I can do that in about 20~30 mins tops.

lol, what kind of essay takes 5 min to write? What do you get on it? 10%? lol. Well, I just hope you can spell your name out properly. A good A+ multipage essay takes several hours to write and a couple of more hours to revise. I mean, teachers are very very picky about your style and your professionalism (especially if you're writing a formal essay). When I'm assigned an essay, we're usually given about a two week time period to work on it and for good reason. Don't think you can write an essay at the last moment and expect to pass.

Reply to AMD_Man

Wow they must grade easy at ur school! In my school, people have spent weeks on a formal essay, and no one has ever gotten an A! They teacher is impossibly hard, I mean the top notch writers get like b's.

Reply to Flamethrower205

easy.
I take my A+ paper I wrote 3 years ago, change the date, period, and class....voila! Instant magic, baby!!
LOL!!! boy, high school was fun......
to bad that didn't work for me in college (here, they actually care what I write).

What kind of student were you, did you take all the impossible courses?

What if you had admin rights to life?

Reply to Flamethrower205

No, they don't. I rarely get A+s on my essays. I'm usually an A student in English. My highest essay mark last year was for history. For a part of final project worth 20% of our mark, we had to write an essay on four significant Canadian figures in the 20th century. I got 96% on my essay. I was actually quite surprised I got so high. Of course, don't forget that the maximum you can get is 100% here. Really, though, the only reason I worked so hard on my history essay was because I got disappointingly low on my previous essay: a mediocre 82%.

Reply to AMD_Man

Well u can't get higher than 100 here either (chem was an exception:)). I especially hate writing essays on topics I don't care about, I mean u spend hours, and get like a paragraph done cause u spent most of it playing w/ ur pen hehe.

What if you had admin rights to life?

Reply to Flamethrower205

thought I mentioned it before in some other thread....
at any rate...
high school, for me, was party/fun time.....yes i still took all the "impossible courses", as you put it....but I was different from my colleagues:
I didn't care if I got an A+ or B in an exam or essay....I didn't care if I graduated with an 4.0gpa or a 3.0 gpa....I wasn't the type of student that got "personal satisfication" from getting good grades and showing off to my peers because they got crap grades....
I just wanted to pass all my classes, score extremely well on SATs and AP exams, and get into a good college.
High school, for me, was a joke...not because it was ridiculusly easy, but because i never really learned anything in a classroom. I could just read the book and learn all i needed to learn to pass the class, mainly because thats just what the teachers did (except for one of my really talented math teacher).

Not only that, I knew college would be different, it would be totally opposite from highschool, for me atleast. That meant no more partying, slacking off and sleeping in class, et cetra. Just study, study, work, work, study, and maybe I can sneak in a few sex here and there, but mostly work and study. So i figured, I'll have fun while i still can, because I know i'll be working my arse off in college....guess what? i was right. though, YMMV.

You guys in the U.S. are lucky; you have SATs that colleges/universities look at. Up here, we have prerequisites that we have to take in Grade 11 and 12 that colleges/universites will look at depending on what we apply for. For example, I'm aiming to get into Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Over this year and the next I need to take Calculus, Algebra and Geometry, English, Physics, Chemistry, with computer-related courses highly recommended. Whether we get in the college we want all depends on how high our overall average is as well as how actively we participated in school activities.

Intelligence is not merely the wealth of knowledge but the sum of perception, wisdom, and knowledge.

Reply to AMD_Man

Haha, colleges look at that greatly too in the US. I intend on going to Columbia or MIT, and they ain't very easy to get into. They look at your schedule and won't accept you if you don't take hard enough courses, and yes, how u do in school matters tremendously. SAT's for those colleges are simply the first test, if u get higher than minimum they ask, they'll look at your application. I have to take all the Math SAT 2's, Writing/lit SAT 2's, Chem SAT2, Physics SAT2 (heard this one was impossible), Bio SAT2. BTW, sticky, which college did u go to?

close to 800 on each (math & verbal).

if you do well enough in those exams, it will definitly outshine your what you take and score in highschool.

another tip:

making some projects outiside of school time (like writing your own program, or creating a database server for a non-profit organization) will also greatly appeal to the recruiters.
