play old game on vista 64 download

My 9 year old wants to play 'Titanic" Adventure out of Time' game on a 64 bit Vista machine. I have tried this d-fend reloaded that looks like a DOS emulator, and this microsoft virtual machine thing but even though I am not a complete noob when it comes to software and fixing the odd problem, I don't know what I am doing wrong with that program and the help file, while not in 'engrish', are still bad. I follwed the instructions (on D-fend) to mount drive whatever and try to run the game, then it gives me some error about running in secure mode, but provides no instructions to getting it out of secure mode. I thought someone here could at least tell me if I am totally wasting my time even trying to make this old game run and should not give the kid hope! Thanks in advance for any reply/advice.
