I just brought Civilization 5 but it only runs in DX9. Is there any way to change it? I have a HD 5770 which supports up to DX 11 I think. Im playing on 1024x768 70Hz.

Hmmm with a 4850 I play in DX 10. When I load the game through steam it specifically asks me if I want to play in DX 9 or DX10/11 (recommended). Does that option box not pop up for you before you load the game?

There's your problem then. You need Win7 for DX11.

DX11 also runs on Vista and has done so for some time, it was around SP1 time that it became available IIRC.

Edit: It was Oct 2009.

I'm pretty sure you should know that dx11 works on both windows vista and 7...
Anyways, check Steam itself, have you restarted it?

MAke sure you downloaded the DX11 update for Vista.

Theres also a chance that they used a DX11 mode somehow incompatable with Vista, though I doubt it...
