GTA4 on the PC is a bit of a resource hog, so I don't think either of those cards will run it very well. I'd recommend at least a GTS250 or a 5750.

Reply to Herr_Koos

hey i searched about 5750 also but many say its not that good for gta iv eventhough it has DX11 and i saw many vid on youtube of people having worse processors than mine lesser RAM and it worked fine for them !!!(at good fps)

Reply to apo1397

and i'm on a budget but 5750 is just a bit off my budget but even then i can afford it . and is the 4650 faster than 5750 cuz even that i saw on internet. but its a DDR2

Reply to apo1397

5750 is faster, uses dx11, and uses 1gb over the 4650's 512mb/1gb versions.
Another option is a 9800gt, which is only about 80$ now.

Herr_Koos is right when saying that GTA4 is quite the resource hog. Looking at your system, your CPU will also be somewhat of a bottleneck.

Your CPU detailed: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=46472

GTA4's system requirements are:

Minimum System Requirements
* OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
* Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz
* Memory: 1.5GB, 16GB Free Hard Drive Space
* Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900

Recommended System Requirements
* OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
* Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz
* Memory: 2 GB (Windows XP) 2.5 GB (Windows Vista)
* 18 GB Free Hard Drive Space
* Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

Looking at these, you have a technical answer. However, dual cores in this game really suffer greatly. In other words, your CPU barely meets the requirements. As for the GPU (video card), given your CPU status, I would go for something that is equal or above the recommended system requirements. If you're looking for the 9000 series GPU, what you'll want to buy is possibly the 9600GT but I recommend the 9800 series.

Here's a detailed benchmark for GTA4: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid [...] ws/?page=2

Keep in mind this benchmark doesn't have a CPU bottleneck.

Unfortunately, it looks like you might not have either the budget to buy an ok card and/or the current setup to run the game properly.

Sorry mate.

Alex

If you can't spend at least 100$ on a new gpu, and you want to argue about how low end cards are going to perform well in gta4; then it might be better if you just get it on your own, and lock this thread.

Hi Apo,

GPU aside, you CPU won't perform up to par. So even if you get the best GPU out there, your CPU will still make the game slutter when more enemies show up on the screen, not to mention coop play which will bring your system to the ground.

I understand your frustration, Borderlands is a great game. That said, if you want shiny graphics and high resolution gaming, PC is the way to go. PC gaming is a little more expensive, however. There's always the console solution which has less shiny graphics but works just as well. Maybe you can ask for a console for Christmas?

Good luck.

Alex

Shiny as in bloom? Never liked bloom myself as it made some parts blinding.

Can't tell that when you don't put any info about living in India.
So HOW much would a 9800gt cost you over there?

If you want to play GTA IV Buy a PS3 (or Xbox 360) - MUCH cheaper.

In fact, by the time you've spent the money to make GTA IV playable on a PC, you could have bought the PC you're speccing now AND the console for less money.

Oh, and as an aside, don't do 3GB RAM as that disables dual-channel operation - you need pairs of RAM, so that's 4GB (or 8GB or 2GB).

Quit making threads, you keep asking the same things in your threads, and they consist of people telling you to buy a 9800gt or a 5570.

The HD 5450 is simply not a gaming card. It is a multimedia card for movies. Yes, you can play games with it, but you may not enjoy playing games with it. See the following review; GTA is not part of the review:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/v [...] d5450.html

I recommend you wait and save up more money to buy at least a HD 5570. The HD 5670 would be better and of course more expensive.

You can settle for the HD 5450, but I am pretty sure you will be disappointed and unhappy with it. What will probably happen is you will ending up not playing games at all while trying to save up money for a better video card. At least you will be able to surf the net and watch a movie.

Maybe you can buy a used video card from someone that is faster than the HD 5450 for your 4000 Rupees ($89 USD).

APO, I already answered your question (look at my response).

Again, your Processor (CPU) will NOT be able to run GTA4 properly. Don't bother buying any Videocard (GPU) without considering replacing your CPU first.

Stubborn little thing aren't ya.

That solves your CPU problem, but you'd still need a high-end graphics card to play on half-decent settings.

As you've already been told.

I would go with at LEAST an HD 5750 which is what I have. I had a 3870 and when I upgraded from my Athlon 4200+ to the Phenon II 720BE, the frame rates improved from sub 20 to around 30.

Having the 5750 definitely has helped to get me to around 40 and OCing has me at 45. I've overclocked both the CPU and the GPU.

Plays fine on my 2.26GHz i5; isn't that basically just an i3 with 'turbo mode'?

That said, I haven't tried co-op.

a 8400gs with driver 260.63 would at least give you 96.3 fps consitantly for 5hrs. gta runs fine on mine. and mine is only a pentium 4. most people think 8400gs sucks but depending on the driver version, 8400gs might be a gaming card instead and it costs only 50 bucks

96fps in GTA4 on a P4 with an 8400GS? You are either trolling or lying.

I was fortunate enough not to experience that first-hand. Thanks to visiting some excellent tech sites like this one, I soon learned to avoid any Nvidia card below an x600 like the plague.

The 8400GS was an excellent card for the 2D desktop stuff that I was doing at the time as it was passively cooled and used next to no power but when I changed my monitor from a 12 x 10 to a 16 x 10 and started to get into 720p vids it struggled and so got replaced with a 9500GT which is still only used for 2D desktop stuff mostly but can handle a 1080p vid on the 19 x 10 monitor I now use.

Uh, that video is NOT GTA IV. So, maybe you ARE getting 90+fps with whatever "game" is in your "video", but it's not proving anything about achieving 90+fps on GTA IV with that old GPU.

Nice try, troll.

Yeah, and it looks choppy. Where's the 90+ fps proof? That shows nothing.

Run it with FRAPs to show us the FPS otherwise, your postings are without merit.
