I have an a7n8x-e_deluxe with a Baton running at 3200+ with 1gb GEIL low latency ram. All was running fine with a single Raptor on for the system drive and 2 EIDE drives for storage. I recently bought a WD 320GB S-ATA drive to replace one of the 2 EIDE storage drives. I did a clean install of Win XP Pro and did the F6 to load the SATA drivers from floppy. It boots fine but now I get blue screen often saying that windows is shutting down to avoid harm to my components. When it reboots, it goes thru bios and s-ata check (recognizing the 74gb raptor and 320gb) goes thru the quick sroll of IRQ settings and then goes to blank screen when the Windows Boot screen should appear. It stays blank and the hard drive light is a constant ON. If I reset it will do the same problem. I have to shutdown and turn off PS for a min and then it will boot up.....until the next crash. I have all the nforce drivers and video drivers installed. I have the raptor on SATA-1 since its the boot. I cant diagnose what the problem is. Any help?

Since on this particular M/B the SATA headers are RAID specific, then with only 1 HDD installed theres no problem, but the manual specifically states the 2nd HDD has to be the same, speed wise and capacity wise, what may be happening is the RAID controller may be trying to configure a possible combination of the 2 drives but cannot do it, so it shuts down, I have the same M/B but I'm running RAID 0 with identical drives, and the M/Bs second SATA header is RAID specific, so you may possibly not be able to use the 2nd SATA header as an independent storage drive.

I'm going to look into this further and see what I can find out about this, I may be wrong I'm talking off the top of my head right now, because I haven't run into this situation before.

The Raptor you have is a 10,000rpm drive isn't it?

What is the 320g's rpm speed?
