do i need a NIC or ethernet card?

will my DFI lanparty UT nF4 ultra-D come with a build in one??? currently i'm using shaw cable and a SMZ EZ Card 10/100 PCI and i was wondering if i still need that card when i upgrade or just plug the cable into the LAN things on the mobo i asked because that my current card is having some connection problems (you need to stuff the bottom of the port with some paper or else it won't connect) or should i get one like <A HREF="http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=1371&mcid=12" target="_new">this</A> thing

or something like <A HREF="http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=1370&mcid=12" target="_new">this</A>?

i don't have the mobo yet, i jsut got all the manual of my upgrades and reading them in advance and checking if there is anything that i missed :p

got thia fro mthe mobo manual:

bah you either have one or two NICs...

Almost all of the highend Motherboard have a integrated NIc now!

what are two nics for though?? one for lan and one for internet?? or can it act like a expensive router if i install my old broken down card?

Yah you can use to it to work like a router.
There is some routing services that comes with Windows 2k / 2k3 server...

Oh and 3 nic to do the routin on 2 computers is just not....usefull !

meh i got 3 computers (if ya count the PIII that i'm about to put into a box and run it from there when i upgrade) and then this extra router will come in handy:) and yes i will order asap (dad gets off work at 6) and i wonder if i can savage some other cheap computer form my school, they got these really old PCs they are giving out (some don;t work) if i get one of them then i might try that wierrd split tasks between 2 computers to get better performance thingy

I assure you that setting up the router through this rig using any kind of extra NIC cards is going to be much more painful than it is worth.

The NIC card costs you $10-15. A 5 way router will cost you less than $30 and is absolutely no hassel. I know what I would be buying.

ROFL me too!
Already setup RRAS part of Windows 2k server, and its not that hard but I assure you plugging four wires is somewhat easier!

Plus if you have to reboot your computer, guess what no internet for the whole family!

lol y starfishy? i'll probelly just gona hook my PIII up to it or any other savaeable computer to it and when its up all they will be up (unless they r in diff room then i don;t want to do all the wireing....) and set the feature wake on lan to enabled :p
