Visited a family member's house in Northport on Long Island yesterday. I
had 2-3 bars of signal on my V60s, but the phone would not connect. My
wife's phone (LG VX4500) and my son's (Samsung a670) had the same problem.

I noticed a couple of hours later that the phone was physically hot to the
touch and was chirping with a low batter alert, even though it had been
fully charged a few hours before. Couldn't believe it, but my wife and
son's phone had the same symptoms!!

Any thoughts on what kind of signal issue would cause this type of behavior?
It was really wierd.

K.E.N.
Probably you weren't near a tower. When you're not near a tower, the phone
and battery have to work harder to find signal, the battery's charge
dissipates more rapidly. This may cause the phone to get hot, also; if that
particular problem persists, bring the phone to a VZW store, the battery
might be defective.

P.S. you're the first person I've become aware of that has the same first
name, and initials; I'm Kenneth Edward Newton, making my initials my first
name, same as you!

This is typical when a digital signal cannot be acquired and the phone
drops to analog which requires more power to poll for a signal. It's
not so common any more as VZ has digital signal in most of the inhabited
world (except Wyoming which either is or is not inhabited). Older dual
mode phones would do this regularly. I had phones that would literally
be too hot to touch when on an analog call; moderately warm when polling
for a signal.

Ken,

You're not alone, this same thing happened to me at a college football game
yesterday--I had a full 4-5 bar signal (digital 1X, not analog), but the
phone wouldn't connect. I presume that the servers/towers may have been
overloaded in that area due to 92,000 people in the stadium, many of whom
probably had Verizon service. Tried to make a call just before the game
started---nothing. No response, but full digital signal. At halftime, the
phone was dead, battery completely discharged. I also know that I hit the
"END" button and closed the flip when I attempted the before game call---

Scratching my head about it too, and concerned about it also---what could
cause this, and, more importantly, what's the fix---

BTW, phone is an 8900----

Are all of your phones, tri-mode?
