I saw in a site selling USB --> Printer cable. What is that for? A replacement of the conventional printer cable? What are the advantages?

I'm guessing it'd start off from your computer's USB port and be converted into a typical printer cable for the printer end. My hypothesis :)

Maybe so that you could have 2 or more printers directly connected without using a splitter box, who knows.

In the situation that I used it in, I needed to put a printer on an IBM NetVista which does not have any com ports or parrallel ports, only usb ports. Does that answer your question?

OK, so it works for most printers? And does the end plu connect to the printer directly or the the ordinary printer cables more like an extension?

It's basicaly an IEEE 1284 compliant device, so any printer that uses this standard will work.

Thanks guys! I guess I'll disable this LPT1 in BIOS and get a USB --> Parallel cable. You think that's nice?

I bought one of these cables about 3 mos ago. It is great to have disabled the serial and parallel ports to free up IRQ's. I no longer share them and do notice an increase in print start times also. I hit print and bamm! the printer starts up.
