Here is my components list for my new AMD 64 939 build & I would appreciate it if you would check it over.
Things to bear in mind:

*Computers main purpose will be gaming - and a bit of GCSE coursework :frown:
*Not too complicated to build & set up - I have built my own machines before but I'm only 15 !!!
*I am in the UK and will mainly be buying from UK websites (possibly get a bit in Chicago - Frys)
*DO NOT suggest more expensive alternatives - My budget can't take it :frown:
*It will be connected to a wired home network.

Personally, I'd save some money on a few items - non-SLi mobo, 3500+ or 3700+, 7800GT - but if you're budget can afford it then it looks like a good system. Personal preference on the mobo would be the Epox 9NPA+ or the DFI NF4 Ultra. Great PSU.

Stay away from the nforce chipset, all I have had is problems, all the forums from abit to asus have major issues with nforce chipsets. I my self bought one and just a week ago went out about bought the Asus AV8-E Deluxe with the Via K8t890 chipset, most stable thing around. And get an X2 CPU 3800 or something.

Good, but isn't the kt890 non compatible with the X2 in later revision? One should be careful when buying a VIA motherboard for use with dual core CPU. He should make sure the chipset is well compatible on the board he want.

As for Nforce4 chipset, I never had any problem with them, from nforce2 to nforce4 in various built I did. Mostly caused by user error, the problem seem more frequent with them because they are more frequent than VIA for enthusiast built.

That being said, you may not remember the post nforce age, when VIA was the main AMD chipset supplier, while ULI ans SIS were having a small market share. VIA get a very bad reputation back then, and they only start regaining some confident with their A64 chipset.

For the built I did, I used all the chipset brand and I still have to see one giving me problem. But, it is me, and I read always the manual fully before atempting the install with a board that I don't have experience with. That way, I learnt that, for exemple, ECS board came with the clear CMOS jumper in the clear position to preserve battery. And attempting to start the board in that position will prevent to start anyway. this happen to a friend that was building a cheap machine and âlmost cause it to RMA the board.

But it is so hard to read either the manual and the paper with notices that come with motherboard.

Be carefull, as there's a VIA fanboy around who'd doing his best to ruin your day by advising you to buy an inferior product with the garbage VIA K8T890 chipset. Worse yet, on an Asus board, Asus being a company with spotty history for the last 2 years.

This guy's name is alexfair, and if I met him, I'd punch him in the throat for supporting a company that has injured my family through unscrupulous business practices. Worse yet, I have a terrible time abiding by purposefull dishonesty.
