Hi everybody, this is my first post.
I'd like to know what you think of the setup I'm going to build.
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ *Venice* s939
Gigabyte GA K8N Pro-SLI
Leadtek GeForce 7800GTX
Kingmax Value RAM 2GB (2x1gb)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120gb
Enermax EG-565P-VE FMA 535W SLI Ready PSU
CoolerMaster Cavalier 3 Case
Windows XP Home OEm
I am planning on adding another 7800GTX in the future.
What do you guys think?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
MrPeterJ

I'd save some money by getting a 7800GT and a 3200+, then spend the extra cash on XP Pro, the Super-Flower SF-201T case and some better RAM. What monitor are you using and at what res do you game? What games do you play?

Yes, BETTER RAM: we highly recommend
the Corsair XMS line with 2-2-2-5 timings:
the Athlon 64 CPU has an on-chip memory
controller, so memory latency is a larger
factor in overall performance with those CPUs
than with the P4.

Actually, the AMD processors with on die memory controller (ODMC) have lower latency than P4s - not sure where you're trying to go with that statement.

Where I was going is that I would recommend a better memory mfr like Mushkin, Patriot, Crucial, Corsair, etc...

I have a NEC MultiSync 75 17inch monitor.
I have a crappy computer now, but I'm planning to play games like BF2, Half Life, Doom3 along those lines. I don't overclock or anything, I just want a very good stable PC.

Do you have a model#?

Unless you game at high resolutions with all of the eye candy, you won't see an appreciable difference between the GT and GTX. Go take a look at some reviews for the performance difference and make sure you look at resolution and AA/AF.

If nothing else, with Pro you can upgrade to 64bit Windows for free.

Can you tell who makes the memory chips for those Kingmax sticks? The Memory Forum has a new/great memory FAQ - I highly recommend you read it.

OK, I will go and read that.

Is the motherboard good?
Windows Vista is coming out in like a year, so why would I need 64Bit? Unless it could be a major upgrade.
What about Kingmax chips?
So you recommend some other memory?

If I was going with 2X1Gb, then I would probably go with something like this G.Skill kit. What model Kingmax and what price? Kingmax makes the memory modules - not the chips that are on them.
