I just got an LG G4020 with ATT. Great little phone, with one
unbelievable problem. I can't find a way to silence the ringtone
without having the phone ring out. My previous Nokia had "Profiles",
by which I could set the ringtone and vibrate mode to one of several
presets. No such on the LG. Worse, when I navigate the menu to set
the ringtone volume, the first thing it does is give me a 'sample' of
the current setting, which I often keep set quite loud. Now it does
have two little buttons on the side which adjust the talk volume or
ringtone volume depending on if I'm currently connected. Fine. But
these keys also give me a sample of the current ringtone volume. What
were they thinking? The only workaround I've found is to hold my
thumb over the earpiece while I adjust the volume - and it still makes
enough noise that it would be embarrasing in a meeting or at the
theater.
If somebody has this phone (or one of its siblings) and can suggest a
solution (besides holding my thumb over the earpiece) I'd be most
greatful. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll have to take up ATT on their
30-day return offer - and just let others know of this gross oversite.

Really? The 4011 has that. I can hit a couple of the arrow buttons and
move the phone from one profile to another. There are 4 profiles, two
of them hard-coded and two of them editable, as I recall. Silent is
hard-coded.
It's the right arrow navigation button right under the display for me.
Moves it from one profile to the other.
Mine doesn't sample anything as it moves--only when you confirm it by
hitting the OK button in the middle of the arrow keys.
But according to ATTWS's web site, you're 100% correct on your
assessment of how it works.

Hmm. The '*' key has a little symbol on it that looks just like the
one they use for "Vibrate Mode". I wonder what happens if I press it.
Well, a '*' appears. OK, how about if I hold it down, like for speed
dial. Guess what - that does it (duh). My great little phone is
saved from the heap.
Actually I have dpotter over on the ATT forums to thank. See

Thanks, I was just wondering about that since I'm thinking of switching to
GSM with an LG G4020. One question: does the vibrate mode stay on even
after you turn the phone off and on again, or do you have to set it again.
I always use the vibrate mode and wouldn't want to have to reset it every
time I turn the phone on.
Thanks,
Steve
