I just got some new parts from newegg to rebuild my system and put them together and i cant seem to get them working. The system will post but when i try to install windows, it get part of the way through and then goes to a blue error screen. It does not do it at the same point in the installation - each time it is at a different point in the install.

so heres the hardware i got:
1) Mobo: MSI K7N2 Delta2-FSR Socket A (Socket 462) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130512)

2) CPU: AMD Mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+ (45W) Barton 266MHz FSB Socket A (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103401)

3) RAM: mushkin Value 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System (mushkin Value 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System )

4) CPU Fan: Thermaltake Silent Boost 80mm Ball Cooling Fan/Heatsink (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835106037).

we had to fiddle with the CPU settings in the bios to make it come up right because by default it came up as a 600MHz Processor. And the best settings we could get to work were 266 x 11 x 1.55v that puts the cpu at 2200mhz. however we did not touch the memory settings in the bios - perhaps we need to?

any advice would be appreciated.

Had me going there for a minute

I'm guessing you mean 200 X 11 = 2200mhz. There is no way your ram could handle 266.
Ram is the problem. You can confirm that by using memtest86. Since it's dos based, you dont need windows to run it.
I would start by upping the v-dimm to 2.8, and seeing if that helps. You may be OK slacking the timings off a little, if that doesn't work.
What revision is your mobo?

looks like its 1.0

we tried the mem voltage ranging from 2.65 to 2.8 and none of the settings worked - we ran memtest86 each time and got a bunch of errors.

is there any other setting i could try? or is it possible that the ram is just defective?

Try to manually set the ram timings, by increasing each of the settings by 1. If that doesn't do it, try with an fsb of 175, and multiplier of 12.5. That will tell if the setup can do 2200.

the ram timings is the 3-3-3-8 settings? CAs latency and all that stuff? in the bios they are all gryed uut and i dont se how to change them.

well i played with the voltage and no setting seems to work so i am going to return the ram - perhaps it was part of a bad batch. is there another (better?) type of ram that you could recommend?
