I am the computer technician for a mid size veterinary office in maryland. It is growing in size and they have requested some time of interoffice mail system to keep employees informed of new policies, tasks, and other private or nonprivate message. Does anyone have any suggestions? As of now I have upgraded the workstations to XP Pro but the server is still NT 4.0 sp6 until they can afford Server 2003. There are 10 workstations and one server; and dial up internet (we're out in the boondocks). Thanks for any replies.

look into getting exchange 5.5 or 2000; that should help you out alittle bit.

You definatly want Exchange and Outlook. You can do all of the things you need quickly and easily.

You may still be able to find a of Win 2000 Server floating around on the cheap, and that could bring you up to speed a bit. I would agree that Exchange/Outlook is the quick and dirty fix, but trying to find an Exchange server install for an NT box at this stage of the game will be difficult.

You may also be able to find an open source alternative. If their not using NT as an app server, they could get a copy of Red Hat, run Samba for file and print services, and use sendmail for email. There are also other third-party mail server apps that may suit your needs as well.
