asus p3bf

please help,

i just purchased a celeron 667 cpu and it wont run on my p3bf. ive been to the asus site and the fastest chip they mention there is the pIII 600. does this mean i cant use my new cpu???

help

The problem that you have is that the Asus P3BF has a maximum multiplier of 8.5 on a 100 FSB=850MHz.
The CPU that you purchased is locked at a multiplier of 10 with a 66 FSB. Do your self a favor and return this CPU for
a PIII 550 or above.

You might want to contact Asus about this and see what they have to say. Some older boards are making use of smaller multipliers such as 1.5 or others that are used to signal the processor that the multiplier is really 10. I am not sure about this but you may want to look into it more before you return the CPU.
