Windows 7 freezes

Hello i read most topics already on this subject and nothing seemed to help out.
Today i bought new PC and transferred some stuff over lan from old one. The transferring took about 2 hours or so and i had no problems what so ever. First time i created broadband connection computer instantly froze and couldnt do anything but reset it. Since then its freezing every now and then doesnt matter if i m running something heavy or just browsing internet. Reliability monitor doesnt show anything except for windows not properly shut down every time it crashes. My gpu temperature is around 40 C-45 C never goes higher.
Config:
Amd phenom II x4 925 4 cpus -2.8 ghz
Nvidia geforce gts 250
4gb DDR
motherboard : Asus m4a89gtd pro

Thanks in advance.

  1. Hi dram04 and welcome to Tom's hardware forum.

Test the RAM one by one in the mobo and after that with memtest86+

Also, update the BIOS and MB chipset from ASUS.
  3. I would download and install the AMD chipset driver from ASUS' website:

    AMD Chipset Driver Version 8.710(3.0.765.0) for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit 7.(WHQL) posted on September 13, 2010.
  4. I had this happen to me once it didnt bsod or leave any errors in my event viewer it would just shut down randomly, I ended up removeing all of my usb connections even the one on the board for my card reader, boot up, shut back down and hook everything back up and have had no problems since. It is not a common problem but after I had tried everything else that was the only thing left.
It could be memory but usualy it will bsod and leave an event, It could be the PSU, I would try the memory like saint19 said first and go from there.
  5. Just tested memory no errors i ll try updating chipset thanks for advices
  6. installed new chipset driver and it stopped freezing thanks for help
